Guidelines for Flexible Teaching Arrangements
In response to the implementation of the 12-Year National Basic Education Curriculum (108 Curriculum Guidelines), promoting efficient self-directed learning and interdisciplinary exploration among students has become a key issue in contemporary higher education. Additionally, to align with global trends, the planning of flexible teaching schedules has emerged as a crucial strategy for universities in Taiwan to support students in connecting with the international community. Accordingly, these guidelines are established to assist instructors in designing diverse and autonomous learning activities for students.
I. Course Schedule Planning
The standard course duration remains 18 weeks. Instructors may, based on teaching needs, adjust the content of the final 1–2 weeks to incorporate self-directed learning, remedial instruction, or make-up assessments. These blended teaching approaches aim to enhance learning outcomes. Instructors must ensure that such adjustments do not compromise the acquisition of essential knowledge and competencies required for the course. (According to Article 23 of the Enforcement Rules of the University Act, one academic credit is equivalent to 18 hours of instruction.)
II. Planning and Assessment of Autonomous Learning
Instructors must clearly outline the methods and content of students’ autonomous learning in the course syllabus before implementation. Appropriate assessment strategies should be designed to evaluate learning outcomes, and the results must be recorded on the Autonomous Learning Cloud Platform for future reference.
III. Examples of Autonomous Learning Activities
(a) Participation in professional forums, lectures, and industry-academia exchange events.
(b) Viewing multimedia materials related to industry or academic fields.
(c) Preparing research or project reports.
(d) Attending workshops or field trips organized within or outside the university.
(e) Other self-directed learning activities that contribute to student development.
