Information on real-time video courses

The principle of sharing educational resources and the spirit of the Tri-University Alliance is our motivation. We also need to consider the significant time it takes to commute between MCUT and our two affiliated universities. Given these considerations, we are promoting real-time distance video courses. Hopefully, these courses will improve student interaction, allow multidimensional course enrollment, and increase the breadth of interdisciplinary learning opportunities. The university offering the course serves as the Broadcaster; the universities where students then take courses are the Receivers. Course instructors and students proceed with the course in long-distance learning classrooms at their respective universities, and engage in discussions and other interaction via video.

Principles of Course Broadcasting

  1. If you as an MCUT student choose to take a real-time long-distance course at a Tri-University Alliance affiliate, you must follow the course’s scheduled class times, at the MCUT-provided long-distance learning classroom.
  2. Specialists are arranged to help in using long-distance learning classroom equipment. Students should only need to focus on studying their courses.
  3. Once the course registration period for the current semester has ended, students must ask how to submit homework and when exams will be. If there are any problems, the student must communicate about them in a timely manner.
  4. Students taking Tri-University Alliance distance courses need not pay any additional fees. However, credits are counted toward the credit limit for the current semester.
  5. If a student cannot attend class, they must first ask for an excused absence from the instructor.

Applying for Tri-University Alliance courses

  1. Tri-University Alliance Course Selection Platform availability: Registration is open from early- to mid-September for 1st semester, then from early- to mid-February for 2nd semester. Specific timetables for selecting and enrolling in courses are posted in August and January; course inquiries will become open at the same time.
  2. Courses available on the platform include in-person courses (i.e., you will need to attend in person at the university where the course is being held) and real-time video courses (i.e., you will use videoconferencing to attend from your own university). Be careful which one you’re registering for!
  3. The List of Real-Time Video Courses is posted in the course registration platform’s Newest Information section. If you’re not interested in attending via real-time video, do not choose courses from this list.
